From a young age Sumi was forced to do work she never wanted to do. But one of our beauty therapy courses has been the beginning of her journey towards freedom. Now Sumi has bravely gone out and started her own little beauty business and she is full of hope for her future. Watch her story in this video.

Stories like Sumi’s are why Joyya invests so heavily in vocational training. Although we offer employment through our own business, we can’t, nor should we, employ everyone that needs a job. For some, all they need is an opportunity to do it for themselves.
Joyya offers vocational training in: Sewing, Beauty Therapy, Math, English, Bangla, Typing, Computing and Cycling and Scootie for the rapidly growing delivery industry in India.
What your donation could do*
$60 could provide someone with bicycle or scooter training
– You can get just about anything delivered in Kolkata now and this training equips people for this growing industry as well as increasing their confidence and independence.
$100 could provide someone with weekly computer training for four months
– computer literacy can open up a new world of employment opportunities.
$150 could provide a woman with beauty therapy training
- she will learn a range of beauty treatments and receive some basic products and business advice to get her started.

Every month we are investing approximately 3,500 hours to increase the capacity of the people in our neighborhoods. So they can get dignified, sustainable employment – and new hope for their futures.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more people we would love to offer these opportunities to as well as new courses (like café and barista training) that we would love to get off the ground. We would love your support to make this a reality.
