Ashima and Bubu's Story

In the heart of Khalpar, amidst narrow alleys and bustling lives, a mother and daughter’s story unfolded—a story of resilience, dreams, and the power of opportunity. When Ashima first joined Joyya’s production team, she was one of many women seeking a chance to reshape their lives. She worked tirelessly, embracing every opportunity that came her way. But beyond her own journey, Ashima carried a greater dream—the dream of giving her daughter, Bubu, a future she never had.
Ashima grew up in a world where education was a luxury. From a young age, she helped support her family, yet her heart always longed for learning. Though she never had the chance to study formally, she believed deeply in the power of knowledge. So, when Bubu was old enough, Ashima ensured she attended a government school, constantly encouraging her to pursue her studies.
Living in a cramped room with extended family, space was a challenge. Yet, Bubu found a way. She studied under the dim glow of streetlights at midnight while Ashima, after a long day’s work, sat beside her, offering silent but unwavering support. With little access to tuition or academic guidance, Bubu persevered—completing school, earning a bachelor's degree in Bengali literature, and a master’s degree as well.
When Joyya’s learning center in Khalpar needed a Bengali teacher, the women of the community had no doubt about who was right for the role—Bubu. Her intelligence, passion for learning, and the respect she commanded through her character made her the perfect fit. For over five years now, she has been teaching at Joyya’s learning center, fulfilling a dream she once thought impossible. But she isn't stopping there—she is learning spoken English, determined to become an even better teacher for her students.
Ashima beams with pride, saying, "Bubu defied all odds and accomplished everything I once wished for myself."
Bubu, in turn, credits her mother: "My mom is my inspiration. She never attended formal school but learned to read and write from others. She pushed me so I could be where I am today. Joyya transformed our lives, giving us opportunities we never imagined. It changed how I see the world and what I believe is possible."
Today, Bubu is married and has a six-year-old son. With her savings from Joyya, she has bought a small house—a testament to her journey from a girl studying under streetlights to a woman forging her own path.
This is the power of opportunity. This is the impact of #SparkGood.
