Angur’s Journey: From Trainee to Beauty Entrepreneur - Joyya

Joyya equips people with the skills and confidence to build their own businesses and create sustainable livelihoods. With training, mentorship, and support, Angur has transformed her expertise into a growing beauty business—one that not only provides for her future but also has the potential to uplift others in her community.

"When I first enrolled in Joyya’s beauty, hair, and makeup courses, I wasn’t sure where the journey would take me. But as I learned new skills, my confidence grew. I completed three courses and am now taking a nails course, adding to my expertise.

Once I finished my training, I called everyone I knew and asked if they would like a facial. Word spread, and soon, people were reaching out to me as well. To build trust, I offered free first facials so potential clients could experience my service. If they were happy, they would pay for future appointments. This not only helped me gain experience but also built a loyal customer base.

Determined to start my business, I went to the market and purchased the basic supplies I needed. My Joyya tutor helped me get some expensive products at wholesale prices, which allowed me to offer services at more affordable rates than local parlors. To add value, I included a free hair trim or eyebrow threading with facials. I traveled across the city providing at-home services, and during the Puja season alone, I earned between 10,000 and 15,000 INR.

As I expanded my work, customers began requesting specific beauty brands. Since investing in a wide range of products was costly, my Joyya tutor gave me a smart piece of advice: ask clients to bring their preferred products, and I would charge a service fee. This approach kept my expenses low while ensuring clients got exactly what they wanted.

But my dream doesn’t stop here. One day, I want to open my own salon in my village—where there isn’t one yet—and start a clothing shop next door. I also hope to pass on the skills I’ve learned, teaching other young women the skills just as I was taught. Joyya gave me the tools to start this journey, and now, step by step, I am working toward making my dream a reality. "
