Standing Up for Oceans, Together: Our Collaboration with Greenpeace Aotearoa - Joyya
At Joyya, we believe apparel can do more than just look good—it can do good too.
So when Greenpeace Aotearoa reached out for help producing t-shirts for their latest ocean campaign, we jumped at the chance to get involved. The message? Simple and bold: NO SEABED MINING.
These shirts weren’t just worn—they were wielded by ocean defenders rallying against a growing environmental threat that many still don’t know about.

What’s Seabed Mining, and Why the Big Fuss?

Seabed mining involves extracting minerals like cobalt, manganese, and rare earth elements from the deep ocean floor. It’s being pitched as the next big thing in mining—particularly to meet the demand for clean energy tech. But there's a catch (a big one).
This relatively new industry threatens delicate marine ecosystems, many of which we barely understand. Once disturbed, some deep-sea environments may take thousands of years—or longer—to recover. Others might never bounce back at all. For coastal communities and ocean life, the risk is real.
Greenpeace has been vocal in calling for a global ban on deep sea mining, and we’re proud to have played a small part in bringing that message to life.

A Shared Commitment to People and Planet

Greenpeace Aotearoa loved the shirts—not just for their message, but for their feel, fit, and ethical make.
At Joyya, we’re not just here to print logos on tees. We exist to reimagine what supply chains can look like when fairness, dignity, and sustainability come first.
From the cotton to the community, every step of your Joyya product has people and planet in mind:
  • Ethically made from seed to stitch
Our products start with 100% organic cotton, sourced from certified farms that protect the earth and the farmers who grow it.
  • Empowering communities in India
Our makers aren’t just workers—they’re leaders in their communities. We provide training, employment, and dignity to people overcoming the cycle of extreme poverty, exploitation, and marginalisation.
  • Certified Fair Trade & GOTS approved
We meet rigorous international standards for labour practices and environmental sustainability. (You can read more about our certifications here.)
  • Driven by purpose, not profit
Every order helps fuel Joyya’s wider mission: creating job opportunities in places where they’re needed most, and showing that business really can be a force for good.

Apparel That Sparks Conversation

We love it when a t-shirt becomes a talking point—and even more when it helps drive awareness and change. Greenpeace’s "NO SEABED MINING" campaign is just one example of how bold messaging, paired with responsible making, can inspire action.
It’s also a great reminder that what we wear carries weight. When you choose to partner with us for custom merch, you’re not just making a product—you’re making a statement.
